Listen to Boodoo Story here.
Boodoo was a dark skin boy, about 16 years old, with hair turned red from the salt and the sun. One day he went fishing and met a girl about his own age and followed her up the river to the pool. But was she just a girl?
For the uninitiated: The forest sang like an orchestra of pans, refers to steelbands. Guitar pans, tenor pans, bass and double seconds, are all different types of steel pans that make up a steelband or steel orchestra.
Taken from my short novel The Old Fisher.
Boodoo Story is written in alternating sections: one in lyrical prose that expresses the beauty that Boodoo is oblivious to. The other is a dialogue that captures Boodoo’s attempt to tell his strange story to his older male companions on the ill-fated pirogue lost at sea.
